Remembering My Uncle Mort That Passed Away Years Ago In California And Here I Show An Etching Print That I Made Years Ago In Paris, France And Used On My Poster Advertising My Show Of Etchings In 1980 In Haselt, Belgium : Cheers!
From the poster I made for my art show of my etchings in Haselt, Belgium back in 1980 " that was special, this was an etching I did when my Uncle Mort died and it touched me greatly, of his humble burial, much like one might have been back in Belgium when Van Gogh lived there, I went and put oil pastels on this copy here to approximate some of the color it has as it is a color plate/ print. Cheers all, TONY 12/ 8/ 2014
I did a whole series and they all depict a group of friends carrying their dead friend to his final resting place, a piece of earth out in the country somewhere, a final resting place for his body. It's abstract, it is done with a thick oil-based sticky red pencil that I like to use to draw with as it is vague and not so clearly-defined so that I may interpret the lines of the bodies as I feel, as they either blend more or less into their environment, depending on my mood as I draw or print from it. I will later today put some on my prints from 199 that I did from these plates I made while living in Paris, France in the seventies. his one I think I did on the back of a zinc plate that I covered and scratched away at the protective pale gree surface on the back to save money then as I was quite pour and without money but quite rich and alive with ideas and inspiration and quests and questions, too ... cheers Vania, TONY
