I WANT to make some more Flamenco noise for both Ricardo Marlow and his companion Flamenco guitarist , Naito, that were both playing at PULPO restaurant tonight, Tuesday, September 17th, 2013 at 8PM when I walked out of Cleveland Park Wines & Spirits heading home.

I NOTICED them, their warm and engaging music first, then their bacls to the big window framed by the two doors ( hard to believe that at one time nine or so years ago this was the location of a MacDonalds ! ), then I noticed Dave Hansen the general manager typing away at a computer screen just to their right, I paused, smiled to myself, and turned to my left and entered the door there to say hello - hola - ola - bonjour - caio ..

HIS HOSTESS was sick so he was doing that duty as well as order for the restaurant. His cell phone went off. I do not know how he could hear anything as he spoke to the person at the end of the other phone. I turned to face Ricardo and Naito and listen to their lively and vibrant and totally-engaging Flamenco music on this drop-dead gorgeous evening there in Cleveland Park.

I WAS MESMERIZED by their music , Ricardo was in a sort of trance, his eyes, closed, he was " feeling the music " much as his hands were feeling the guitar and the strings, he sensed the mood and the space and the moment, only opening his eyes the tiniest little bit towards the end of this first song.

I LOVED IT, as they finished I walked two steps towards them to congratulate them and to shake their hands and ask for their card so that I might write them up here. Dave finished his conversation, he offered me a drink, I said : " no, want to get back and see my wife "; so he offered to step outside with me as Ricardo and Naito continued to play.

I TOLD DAVE that I would write them up. We both agreed that their music was incredible. Standing again outside on the sidewalk and looking at their backs, and hearing their music spill out all around us so that many would stop and pause and look in as they passed : I told Dave " Bravo! This is what this neighborhood needs. Some good music to fill both the restaurant and give it a special feel, as well as to flow out the two open doors as it did and fill the space around us.THE MUSIC was special and I will go back with my sketch pad and oil pastels and draw them and sip on some wine, and maybe have a small plate or two or three of appetizers while I do this. It was the perfect evening for this. I would have loved it, really I would : I would have been completely in my artistic element. I would also have taken pictures!

BUT SPENDING TIME with my wife is priceless. I had a choice, I made it, and I am happy to report that my drive home tonight was a real treat as the music stayed with me the whole drive home.

YOU ALL SHOULD GO BY on a Tuesday night when Ricardo and Naito play, hang out for awhile. There's a bar to the left, an upstairs, too.

ONE MORE WAY to hang onto summer before it is all gone! I loved it, really I did. Bravo Ricardo Marlow and Naito, you helped to make my day and night. That's what I told Dave as I waved to him, thanked him and walked down Connecticut Avenue , NW, earlier this evening - with almost a wonderful moon I spied as I drove home : what a sight that was, too. Cheers, buenas noches a todos! Anthony ( TONY ) Quinn
