Beauty Through And In A Wine Glass Friday, June 5th, 2009
Devon , you will perhaps ( actually, probably ) not find these pictures beautiful or flattering ) and I understand that. However, from an artist's eye I do find both magic and beauty and gravitas and contrast and rapture and rawness and yes, ugliness all wrapped into an ever-changing vision that morphs and varies and cries out to me with incredible appeal!
I like these pictures : they both speak to me and draw my eye and my being closer into them with the distortions of the glass, the sharpness, the grossness of beauty that is never simply beauty alone. Do you understand?
I think women understand this about beauty better than men do : there can be beauty there right next to ugliness all the time. I chose to focus more on the beauty and yet the camera does not know or understand, care about or appreciate the difference one way or the other. The camera simply records what is there before it's open eye so very fleeting though it may ( usually ) is.
Devon was pouring for customers at my store the CANTON ginger liqueur the other evening, I took these towards the end of the three-part tasting that we did of CANTON and TOAD'S HOLLOW dry Pinot Noir rose from California ( as well as the CHATEAU DU BARRAIL white Bordeaux and the N.Y. OMMEGANG Belgian/Burgundy-style beers/ales from Coopers Town.
What drew me to take these pictures of course was both Devon's youth and striking beauty. Her flowing, shimmering brunette hair and her white, tight-fitting tank top always catch, snare and nail my eyes so that I am prisoner and captured ...
I like that you see Devon here and not behind the glass in this picture that I took with her with me just before she left. Cheers and thanks for coming to pour your CANTON Ginger liqueur for our customers Devon.
I have placed all these pictures in order except the one with Devon and me that I took at the end. In this last photo she looks pretty happy and relieved that she had sold a number of bottles of CANTON Ginger liqueur and that she could go home and finally relax after a very animated time in our store with these three simultaneous tastings going on.
Enjoy, TONY
