TABLE # ONE ( Franceen Kahng of Leonardo Loscascio wine selection - fine Italian wines ) - pouring four wines

1) Est Est Est 2017 FALESCO ( the owner is from this region and he has made it a personal vision-mission of his to bring back the Roschetto grape variety to the exalted position it can attain ), a  dry Italian from Lazio outside of Rome, a vivacious white blend and nose of 50% Trebbiano , 30% Malvasia and 20% Roschetto grapes ( that is the grape that indigenous to this area to pay special attention to ). Together the three grapes create both sight and sound, smell and feel- a delicious tactility on the palate of pear and melon that follow the citrus and apple    and white flower bouquet. Soft flavors to relax and smile even when a smile is not forthcoming without this enticement. $10.99. Si si si est est est secco bianco  best best bEST!

2) Orvieto ( a beautiful hillside town looking down into a lush green carpet valley of vines, trees, olive orchards and more )  Classic LA CARRAIA Umbriandry white blend lends itself to a lush and magical quartet of tastes and flavors with the four grapes playing here completely to their strengths ( acknowledging tha you cannot have strengths without recognizing the weaknesses, too ). A dry enticing blend of 40% Grechetto, 30% Procanico, 20% Malvasia and 10% Verdello, 2017, unoaked , only stainless-steel contact with no wood, a appealing pale straw yellow, with contrasts in the boquet of elegance and intensity - opposites which find common ground, tearing down any walls to future growth. The classic Grechetto, and the mysterious Procanico that is generally quite shy and does not search for the limelight of the Grachetto grape. But make no mistake, this unknown grape imparts some wonderful Mediterranean kissing-the-ground-flower-accents. Fresh and full with bright acidity and a long finish. $9.99

3) Barbera D'Asti " Villa Del Roso " 2016, 100% unoaked Barbera that create an atmosphere of bright red cherries with notes of violets, herbs that result, in part from younger vines perhaps only 4-8 years of age?!? Lighter-bodied, the tannins have been coaxed to be softer and less biting and sharp, the lower alcohol also encourages a red that is quite rich yet easy to enjoy. $11.99 a bottle. A lovely wine to sip and to anticipate the near future unfolding for you.

4) Paolo Librandi that has been here in the store produces this CIRO dry red made from the indigenous grape variety there called Gagliopo. It has a transparency in color the confuses the eyes but not the tongue that bathes in this delightful lighter red, Classic DOCG, with many aromas of the red fruits we love, think of cranberries and perhaps wild flore strawberries, , the tannins that dry the mouth of moisture are riper and produce a carpet that is plush and deep on the tongue, saturating quickly, touching faster and resonating louder, too. $11.99 for this 2015. Best still with food.

TABLE # TWO ( NOah Wallace Stevens pours the fine wines of Bulgaria for us tonight - of Global Wine MD-

1) " Delight "  2016 off-dry white blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Viognier  from BULGARIANA, this is a fresh and fragrant and charming white to sip and even close your eyes and imagine and possibly lead into some fantasy you have been meaning to explore but been to busy till now to do?!? $9.99 a bottle, a Thracian white to thrash talk soft and pleasing trash over! Or not. 13% alcohol by volume.

2) K CELLARS   Pinot Noir ( On Special for $12.99, 3-for $33, 6 for $60 - solid or assorting ) turns up the color, the heat, the viscosity, the intensity, magnifying the gloss and glean, wanting to screen a scream in silk as in art as in life as in a fine experience of ' the moment '!

3) K CELLARS Merlot 2012 ( On Special for $12.99 with a 3 for $33, a 6 for $60), - this Merlot again has a deepness of nooks and crannies that mystify and excite and scare the tastebuds in their ascent and descent and constant movement through these channels of taste sensations that are best when paired with food! What a fine Merlot, what does your palate tell you!?! Mature with 14% alcohol by volume.

4) VILLA YAMBOL Mavrud 2015  ( indigenous red grape variety ) that gives a darker, more angular and structured-yet-sublimely-fractured spin of escalator flavors, giving the possibility if one ventures to be so brave to jump in tastes between the one going up and the one going down - yes, follow me?!? On Special for $12.99 ( with a 3 for $33, and a 6 for $60 either solid or mixed wines). With 13.5% alcohol by volume.

5) " Delight Red ", a 2015  off-dry that will assuage and coat the palate, mouth walls, tongue's surfaces in a drenching conversational coating to please, tease, cajole and relax one completely! $9.99 a bottle. Juisy red fruits, fresh pums, sweet cherries, fresh vanilla, you taste the suggestion of raspberry jam - which of these do you smell or taste?!? 13% alcohol by volume.

TABLE # THREE with Narayan Campbell of GLOBAL WINE MD - tasting five fine Portuguese and Bulgarian wines -

ALL the FIUZA wines are from Tejo, Portugal that is short for Alentejo.

1) 100% Arinto 2015one of the indigenous white grapes from Portugal ( that we often see in Vinho Verde dry white, low alcohol blends or all by itself ) from FIUZA. On Special for $12.99 a bottle ( with a 3 for $33, and a 6 for $60 - assorted or the same - we also have the dry rose and brut Nature 3 Castas that can be included - sparkling here from FIUZA, all estate-bottled ), I like the frankness, the hones-tness, the complete-ness of this taste that is dry and angular and crying for some solid food to fill-in the spaces it leaves , the gaps that need the food to act like sap to smoothen-out-the-owww-ouch-otherwise-other-liquid-wise-to-become-totally-wise : ooohhhh, what a surprise! We can do it! The color is more golden and richer, deeper than that of the Alvarinho white with 12.5% alcohol by volume.

2)  100% Alvarinho 2016 indigenous Portuguese grape variety ( that is the top, considered the best by many ), a brighter, softer, more rounded and welcoming taste much like a Sancerre white can provide. I call these the Sancerre's of Portugal as they are rounded just at the right dips and jolts, nuts and bolts, caffaws, tears and creases! This is a sublime white to sip that makes great conversation while it relaxes you and pleases you, too. Lovely! It is On Special for $12.99 with a 3 for $33 and a 6 for $60! Yes yes yes, obregado amigos para este vinho fino! 12.5% alcohol.

3) Touriga Naciona; 2014 dry red Portuguese wine of FIUZA, estate-bottled, a real treat to enjoy with your meal, it has both style, flash, flair and a silky rich brightness that inflames our molecules that work like mules to bring us comfort , shade and tastes in spades. Classic, a blend of old-world and new-world, a treat! On Special for $12.99 a bottle with 3 for $33 and 6 for $60!

4) Reserve 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from VILLA YAMBOL, On Special for $12.99, with a 3 for $33 and 6 for $60. I like the intensity-in-twenty-cy-in-thirty-cy of depth, profundity, a grape mixologist's dream where there is only one grape that screams poetically to us of complexity!!! A delight, greater with food, with 13.5% alcohol by volume.

5) 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Portuguese Tejo dry red from VILLA YAMBOL that scales any walls and has them all falling at it's feet in hommage, appreciation, love and care for a dry red that needs no walls, that speaks to a whole world of love and health and honesty, humility, respect and inclusion and not exclusion. On Special for $12.99 a bottle, with a 3 for $33 and a 6 for $60, with 13% alcohol by volume. From the Thracian district of Bulgaria - plenty of trace grace and no trash - a fine food wine. Just the way it is supposed to be!

TABLE # Four - With Dan Schoeff working with Franceen Kahng, tasting 4 fine Italian wines -

1)PALLADIO BIANCO 2016 unoaked dry white Italian is a medley of 60% Chardonnay, 20% Trebbiano, 20% Grillo grapes named after the famous architect Andrea Palladio. Like the architect these three grapes construct a framework of liquid tastes that are supremely easy to drink and sip, that marry so well with food, that dance, too in our mouths with a refreshing acidity and an inviting nose that release the endorphins we need of pleasure, texture, tactility, mobility, ease and community that know no walls. $9.99 a bottle, what a steal!

2) PALLADIO ROSSO 2016 dry red Italian is like a national treasure, a national zoo of earthy and wonderful noises in flavors and tastes that are like a true cacophany of the world! A union of 50% Sangiovese, and 50% Merlot, there is elegance, and intriguing hints and impressions like grape-hand-foot-prints on our senses with dark cherries, and other red fruits, too. I really am surprised and pleased by the supple easier tannins that do not jar, jade, act dastardly on our taste buds. I also like the longer finish here!

3) Codice Citra a dry red from Montepulciano that has recently had a face-lift and slight restructure to elevate, more cpativate it's audience, with 3 thousand small family growers all working without a wall to separate them, 3 thousands bridges rather to unite them in their quest in Chietri province in Abruzzo, Italy to bring us the best possible Montepulciano that they can! $10.99 a bottle, a treat of flavors to enjoy with a meal.

4) CASTELLUCIO ' Le More ' Romagna Sangiovese dry red , a 2017, $11.99, that is 100% Sangiovese, unoaked, with a great blackberry darker-berry character - blueberries to pass around while sipping this anybody?!? A treat with a meal. Cheers!

TABLE # 5 : we have Kevinthe owner and producer of his Blackleaf organic French vodka made in Cognac, France. Kevin will be back for his second visit here and will make us all a cocktail to close our tasting and provide us with any strength we need to tumble the thought of any more walls being built! It is On Special for $25.99 a bottle, regular price is $29.99 a bottle. It is a treat and quite special, come taste and discover it here for the first or the second time!

it should be colder tomrrow but no rain in the forecast so that is all positive.

we celebrate our unity and not our division.

we toast to our health and prosperity,

we must try and find less waste, to recycle more

we are thrilled for the women's march on our very heels

I was excited earlier watching a video with Kiran Shah speaking about our present situation and saying : " our challenge here is against stupidity : as she went on to say that the world would survive us all. she also went on to talk about the invaluable roll of women. all very exciting and essential.

we are not excited that today is the 18th day that government workers are without pay and the certainty of their jobs as our president takes to television tonight to talk about the emergency of building a wall between us and mexico

so let's take each others hands and move forward constructively, productively, politely, in solidarity, mission, peace and purpose and knowing that we can change slowly certain things and step-by-step make our world a healthier better place along with out health, too : get more fiber and protein into us so we make live better!

challenging times, but we can and must do this

THANKS for everything, you all are the very best! TONY 1/13/2019
