Danielle holds up her two favorite sketches here in the photo above.
These are the quick sketches that I did this Saturday afternoon in late June of Danielle that was at our store doing an in-store/wine-tasting of some Portuguese ( Vinho Verde GATAO ), Argentina ( dry rose made from the Malbec grape ) and some dry red Greek SKOUROS red. It was a good tasting and towards the end I got my sketch pad and as she poured her wines and spoke about them I did these quick less-than-a-minute sketches. She did not pose, she was moving all the time.
We went out in the back through our back door outside of the store besides this tree with some nice grass on a very hot afternoon. I spread the sketches out and asked Danielle to sit by them so that I could take some pictures as a souvenir for me as I often give the sketches to those that I draw. I often draw wine owners and wine-makers, but occasionally I do them of anyone that inspires me and Danielle did on this particular afternoon in our nation's capitol.
Being an artist I am always being inspired by life and all the activity around me. It keeps me fresh and active and that is all good.
I like doing my sketches as people move and talk and express themselves. It forces me to act and draw quickly to capture the essence and the core of my subjects. The sketches are not always flattering but I hope that seen as a whole with the others that they tell more of a complete story / paint more of a complete picture of those that I am drawing.
In this instance I worked with three Bic ink pens ( red, blue and black ) combined to make these ten quick sketches.
This all happened so quickly and even so I think that Danielle liked two in particular at this moment. How do you feel about them now Danielle? Have you changed your opinion? I will have to ask you this in person the next time that we see each other. Cheers, TONY
